Tushar, the founder of Amdavad Café, is a trained drama artist and art practitioner with a vision to create more than just a café. His dream was to build a casual yet creative space where people could eat, work, brainstorm, and network. The café was imagined as a hub for conversations, collaboration, and community building, especially for startups, freelancers, and creative professionals in Ahmedabad.

The Challenge

Tushar had already decided on the name “Amdavad” — the local and affectionate name for Ahmedabad. The challenge was to design a brand identity that captured the youthful, cultural, and dynamic spirit of the city while resonating with the café’s creative community. The identity needed to feel approachable yet artistic, grounded in local roots but also contemporary.

Our Solution

We took inspiration directly from the city. Our idea was to design the identity around the first letter of “Ahmedabad” in Gujarati script (અ). This abstract, flowing form symbolized the Sabarmati River, the lifeline of Ahmedabad that connects the old and new parts of the city. By making it fluid and surreal, we tied together tradition, modernity, and creativity in one symbolic mark. The visual identity was designed to be minimal, artistic, and memorable, making it versatile across café branding, signage, and digital presence.

Execution

  • Designed a Gujarati letterform-based logo with an abstract, river-inspired flow
  • Built a modern yet earthy color palette reflecting Ahmedabad’s warmth and vibrancy
  • Developed brand applications including café signage, menus, packaging, and merchandise
  • Created visual language assets for digital communication and community events
  • Extended the identity into cultural storytelling elements to keep the brand connected with its local roots
